Blue Magic learn UEFA Futsal Champions League fate
The Dublin side will travel to Greece to face AEK Futsal Club, alongside Romania's Futsal Klub Csíkszereda and Switzerland's Futsal Minerva. The games will take place in Athens between August 27 and September 1st.
Irish clubs have participated in the UEFA Futsal Cup for the past 12 years with varying degrees of success with teams like EID Futsal Club (Dublin) and Sporting Fingal qualifying beyond the Preliminary Rounds.
However, an Irish club has yet to make it to the later stages to mix it with the likes of FC Barcelona, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Dynamo Moscow and other such big-name clubs which grace this prestigious competition. This is Blue Magic’s third time to represent Ireland at this level.
The UEFA Futsal Cup has been re-branded as the UEFA Futsal Champions League and 2019 Futsal Champions League winners were Sporting Lisbon following an exciting campaign last season.
Blue Magic FC Director Piotr Piwowarczyk and Head Coach Adam Kowaluk attended the draw at UEFA HQ in Nyon and were delighted with the result. “We’re proud to be representing Irish Futsal in this prestigious Champions League competition and we will prepare very well and give our best effort to try and advance to the next stages. We’ve a really good group of players, some experienced in this competition who will be excited by this opportunity. We’re really looking forward to going to Greece to give our best" Piwowarczyk said after the draw.
Blue Magic have been involved in the Irish Futsal scene for the past decade and have won the FAI Futsal Cup on three occasions. The club features a large group of young futsal academy players as well as it’s successful senior squad which plays in the AUL Futsal Premier League.
