2007 - Eircom League of Ireland Cup
The quarter-final results of the 2007 edition saw the remaining three teams from the eircom League, First Division, eliminated.UCD defeated Finn Harps at Belfield; Derry City travelled the length of the country to defeat Cobh Ramblers and were watched for the first time by their new manager, John Robertson, while Shamrock Rovers overcame Athlone Town.
The draw for the semi-finals set up a repeat of the final of 2006 when Derry City were drawn to play UCD.
Derry won that final and repeated their success in the current competition by beating UCD 3 - 0. Highlight of the match was an amazing goal scored by the talented Pat McCourt in the 83rd minute when he soloed past several UCD defenders before firing the ball home for Derry’s third goal.
Bohemians came through a very tight game in the other semi-final by beating Shamrock Rovers 1-0 at Dalymount Park. Glen Crowe was a match-winner for Bohs.
There was a draw to decide the venue for the final and Derry were again fortunate. They won a dramatic final with a goal in the first period of extra time through Kevin McHugh after the teams had finished level 0-0.
It was Derry’s third consecutive season to win the Cup and their eighth time overall.
