Competition Description: 

The oldest football competition in Ireland, the FAI Senior Cup is the Blue Riband event for clubs in Ireland. Clubs from the SSE Airtricity League compete with junior and intermediate clubs in a competition that dates back to 1922.

The current holders of the competition are Dundalk, who defeated Cork City 2-1in the 2018 Final, courtesy of a Patrick McEleney goal.

FAI Ford Cup Quarter Finals draw

Airtricity League Premier Division leaders Shamrock Rovers have been given a home tie against Galway opposition in the FAI Ford Cup Quarter Finals. The Hoops will play the winners of tonight’s Fourth Round replay between near-neighbours Salthill Devon and Galway United.

Current FAI Ford Cup holders Sporting Fingal face Limerick in a Fourth Round replay at Jackman Park tonight, with the winners of that fixture facing St. Patrick’s Athletic in Richmond Park in the Quarter Finals.

MNS to feature FAI Ford Cup QF draw

The draw for the FAI Ford Cup Quarter-Finals will take place tonight (Monday, 30th August) and will be broadcast live during the MNS programme on RTE TWO (7-8 pm). The clubs and numbers in the draw are as follows:

Limerick hold FAI Ford Cup holders, Sporting Fingal

The FAI Ford Cup holders, Sporting Fingal, were stunned when Limerick snatched an added time second goal at the Morton Stadium to force a replay of their fourth round tie.

The replay will be played on Monday next in Limerick after the First Division team had come from two goals down to cause a surprise.

Sporting Fingal looked well on their way to a routine win with two goals in the opening nineteen minutes of the match.

Ronan Finn put them in front after four minutes and Conan Byrne claimed a second in the 19th minute.

Dublin derby tops the bill in FAI Ford Cup Fourth Round

It’s a busy night of FAI Ford Cup action in store tonight when the eight Fourth Round ties are played.

Bohemians host Dublin rivals Shelbourne at Dalymount Park in the standout tie of the round while there’s plenty more intrigue to the other encounters.

Monaghan United 2-1 FC Carlow

Monaghan United reversed an early deficit to overcome A Championship side FC Carlow at Gortakeegan in Tuesday’s FAI Ford Cup third round replay.

Despite being given an early scare, two goals in eight minutes sent Mons through to the next round where they will face Cork City Foras Co-op at Turner’s Cross.

Carlow sped into a fifth minute lead with Adam Byrne’s penalty. The spot-kick was awarded for a foul by Brian Gartland on Greg Sykula.

Brave Bray edge Derry in FAI Ford Cup

Bray Wanderers 3-2 Derry City

Bray Wanderers will meet UCD in Round 4 of the FAI Ford Cup after coming from behind to beat Derry City at the Carlisle Grounds in this replay on Monday night.

This five-goal thriller had it all, including a red card for Bray’s Dane Massey on the hour.

Derry were ahead just on the half hour when James McClean combined with Vincent Sweeney to allow Darren Cassidy fire home but the hosts equalised five minutes later from the spot.

Bray Wanderers host Derry City tonight in their FAI Ford Cup Third Round replay at Carlisle Grounds (7.45pm)

Having recorded a scoreless draw at home to Shamrock Rovers last Friday night, the Seagulls will be hoping that they can keep their defence tight against the First Division league leaders.

"A draw was probably a fair result from the first game," said Bray manager Eddie Gormley of the original third round fixture. "It’s going to be a difficult night for us. They have a top side - a Premier side, in my opinion.

Davin O’Neill’s winner against Bluebell United in Tuesday night’s FAI Ford Cup replay sets up a fourth round tie against Monaghan United or FC Carlow.

The solitary strike of the replay at the Carlisle Grounds came on 57 minutes when Mark McNulty’s quick throw-out allowed substitute Paul Deasy raid down the right flank and cut the ball into the path of O’Neil to finish from the edge of the box.

The draw for the Fourth Round of the FAI Ford Cup was made on Monday evening, with North Dublin rivals Bohemians and Shelbourne drawn against each other in the last sixteen stage of the competition.

Galway will also host a local derby, as Galway United take on Salthill Devon, while St. Patrick’s Athletic manager Pete Mahon will face his former club, Belgrove, and former Shamrock Rovers striker Tony Cousins will hope his Longford Town side can overcome the Hoops at Flancare Park.
