The FAI is strongly committed to the development of women’s football at all levels and our Women’s Unit, which is based at FAI Headquarter, is headed up by Sue Ronan who is also our senior international team manager. In addition to fielding international women’s teams, the FAI also runs a Women’s National League and National Cup competitions and works closely with the Women’s FAI who run grassroots football. Players are developed through the Soccer Sisters and Emerging Talent Programmes and the Association.

The destination of the 2012-13 Bus Éireann Women's National League title will be decided on Sunday when the championship race goes down to the wire on the last day of the league campaign.

Bus Éireann National Women's League Awards announced

Bus Éireann National Women's League Awards announced The nominees for Player and Young Player of the Season in the Bus Éireann Women's National League have been announced and the Team of the Season has been selected. The Awards will be presented at a function in the Aviva Stadium next Tuesday, May 14, along with the Top Scorer Award and the Merit Award. Every player in the Bus Éireann National Women's League had a vote in the Player and Young Player of the Season categories while the Women's National League Committee selected the Team of the Season. The six nominees for Player of the Season are: Sara Lawlor (Peamount United), Sylvia Gee (DLR Waves), Rianna Jarrett (Wexford Youths Women), Julie-Ann Russell (Peamount United), Caroline Thorpe (Raheny United) and Mary Waldron (Raheny United). Wexford's Rhianna Jarrett has also been nominated for the Young Player of the Season along with Katie McCabe (Raheny United) and Ciara O'Connell (Cork Women's FC). The Team of the Season includes three players from Raheny United, Peamount United and Wexford Youths Women and one from DLR Waves and Castlebar Celtic. The team is : Mary Rose Kelly (Wexford Youths Women), Seana Cooke (Raheny United), Megan Campbell (Raheny UnitedLauren Dwyer (Wexford Youths Women), Karen Duggan (Peamount United), Sylvia Gee (DLR Waves),Sarah Rowe (Castlebar Celtic), Caroline Thorpe (Raheny United), Rianna Jarrett (Wexford Youths Women), Sara Lawlor (Peamount United), Julie-Ann Russell (Peamount United). The Director of the Bus Éireann Women's National League, Fran Gavin, said: "This has been another excellent season culminating in an exciting title race which will go down to the last games this Sunday. The standard and quality of player in the league improved and the awards are an opportunity for us to pay tribute to those players who have excelled during the course of the season. We have also introduced a Merit Award this year to honour those who have made a valuable contribution to the development of women's football in Ireland." Thorpe is Bus Éireann WNL Player of the Month for April

Raheny United midfielder Caroline Thorpe has been named as the Bus Éireann Player of the Month for April for her role in guiding Sean Byrne's side to within touching distance of the League title.

FIFA course to assist development of women's football

FIFA will host a five day Advanced Coach Education Course in Dublin this weekend as part of the FAI's continuing efforts to develop women's football in Ireland.
