Republic of Ireland Under-21s suffered a difficult night as Germany scored six in a convincing victory, including three penalties.

Ireland's hopes of qualification were dealt with a blow as Ireland dropped to third spot in Group Five with two games remaining against Israel and Germany.

Aaron Seydel opened the scoring five minutes into the tie and Eduard Lowen made it two from the spot, after Jake Mulraney's foul, in the 21st minute to give Germany a comfortable early lead.

Ryan Manning almost got Noel King's side back into the game four minutes later after his 25-yard free-kick was deflected wide. From the resulting corner, Josh Cullen set up Manning on the edge of the area, but his curling effort hit the side netting.

After the break, Ireland almost reduced the deficit in the 63rd minute after Reece Grego-Cox took the ball down for Corey Whelan to provide a low cross, but Mulraney couldn't reach the ball six yards out.

Two minutes later, Germany scored a third as Teuchert smashed the ball home from the edge of the area. He completed his hat-trick in the 72nd minute from the spot after Liam Kinsella's foul to make it 4-0.

Substitute Suat Serdar scored two in the final 10 minutes of the game, including a penalty, to secure a convincing victory for the away side.

Two SSE Airtricity League players made their international debuts during the game as Cork City Sean McLoughlin started, but was forced off with a hip injury after 15 minutes, and Dundalk midfielder Jamie McGrath came off the bench in the second-half.

"It's fair to say that Germany are the best team in the group on the evidence of that performance. You can see why they were Champions two years ago," U21 Head Coach Noel King said.

"I've never remembered three penalties being given away in a game which definitely didn't help us. It was 2-0 half-way through the second-half and it looked like we could have got back into it.

"After that, we were chasing them and they added to the scoreline. We need to regroup after this result before the two games in October. We'll have to get three points in Israel and see where that takes us in the group."

Noel King's side face a crucial qualifier against the Group Five leaders at Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday, September 11 with kick-off at 6pm.

Boyle has been drafted into the squad and is in contention to feature for the team after their 1-1 draw against Kosovo on Friday. Ronan Curtis scored in the 81st minute to secure a point in Kosovo and go into Tuesday's match two points behind their opponents.

Ireland have never qualified for the UEFA U21 European Championships finals and with three games left, Noel King's side have qualification in their own hands.

"It's a huge game for us and the boys are buzzing for it. We got back from Kosovo on Saturday, it's been a long week for the group but the attitude has been excellent and everyone is really looking forward to it," U21 Head Coach Noel King said.

"It was a good point in the end in Kosovo. They took points off Norway and Germany so it's a good result, and we go into tomorrow's game full of confidence.

"This is a really talented group and the players have done brilliantly throughout the campaign. They've got themselves into a great position and the chance of qualification is still there."

A big crowd is expected at Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday evening with tickets just €5 for adults and FREE for U18s, FAI Season Ticket Holders and Shamrock Rovers Season Ticket Holders. Tickets are currently available from Ticketmaster and will be available on the gate on the evening.

President Michael D Higgins is set to attend the fixture and U21 Head Coach King believes the Tallaght Stadium crowd will have a big part to play.

"We had a fantastic night at Tallaght Stadium the last time we were here against Azerbaijan. The crowd really got behind the team and they had a huge part to play in the last minute goal," King added.

"They pushed the players on and we'll need that again tomorrow. Germany are a top team and it should be a great occasion. It is definitely one of the biggest games I've been involved in with the U21s.

"If we can play to our best and get the result we need, we'll go into the final two games in October with a great chance of qualification and these players really deserve that reward."

Noel King's side face Germany at Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday, September 11, with kick-off at 6pm, following Friday's 1-1 draw against Kosovo.

The squad returned to Ireland yesterday and trained at the FAI National Training Centre, Abbotstown ahead of Tuesday's fixture. Both players linked up with the squad earlier today.

It is the former UCC man's first call-up to the U21 squad and joins Dundalk midfielder Jamie McGrath and Derry City duo Ronan & Rory Hale in the squad from the SSE Airtricity League.

Ryan Sweeney and Ronan Curtis are both suspended for Tuesday's qualifier following their third yellow card of the qualifying campaign.
