Home-based U18s face Wales in Wexford...
Republic of Ireland Under 18 and 19 Head Coach Paul Doolin has named his squad for the forthcoming Under 18 home based squad friendly against Wales at Ferrycarrig Park, Wexford (Wednesday, February 15, 7.30pm). The Irish boss picked his squad with Assistant Coach Tommy Connolly from the Inter-provincial games last year. Speaking today Doolin said, 'This is my first year with the U18's so I'm delighted to be involved with the squad. It will also be my first home game since I became Head Coach back in September 2010, so I'm looking forward to working on home soil. The fixture is a great opportunity for the lads to shine. Hopefully the players will enjoy it and we get a great result in Wexford.' The squad consists of some familiar faces, with Pierce Sweeney from Bray Wanderers, who was capped at Under 17 level making an appearance. Sweeney was part of the Under 17 squad who narrowly missed out on 2010/2011 UEFA Finals despite beating Latvia 4-1, an injury time goal from Denmark wiped the Irish team's hopes of progression. Conor Driscoll from Avondale Utd and Jamie McGlynn from St. Patrick's Athletic have both also been capped at Under 16 level. Gareth Brady from Dundalk FC (pictured on slide show with story headline) and brother of Hull City Striker, Robbie Brady will also hope for a place in the starting eleven. Gareth has previously been capped twice at Under 17 level by current club boss, Sean McCaffrey. Mervue Utd star Conor Shaughnessy, brother of Under 19 international Joe Shaughnessy, who featured heavily in the European Championship Squad from 2011 will also look to feature.
