The Republic of Ireland narrowly failed to make it to the finals of the UEFA Championship in 2011. They lost out for the second consecutive Championship by one point. Now they look to qualify for the 2012 Championship second phase qualifiers by emerging from a group that includes Liecntenstein, Czech Republic and hosts Kazakhstan. The mini-series kicked off in October, 2011 and Ireland opened their campaign by beating Liechtenstein 8-0.
