The all-conquering Republic of Ireland women's U17 side continue to draw the plaudits following their incredible season after they scooped the UEFA Championship Fair Play Award for 2010 and the Texaco Young Sportstars of the Year this week.
The FIFA World Cup heroes were first honoured at UEFA headquarters in Nyon where Republic of Ireland captain, Dora Gorman (pictured) was on-hand to conduct the draw for the UEFA Women's U17 Championship, first qualifying phase for 2011/12 where Ireland were pitted against Italy, Romania and group hosts, Macedonia which will take place in Spring, 2011.
Meanwhile, Ireland's women's U19 side will travel to Portugal where they will face Hungary, Israel and hosts Portugal for the first qualifying phase for the 2011/12 competition.
The FIFA World Cup quarter-finalists were also chosen as the Texaco Young Sportstars of the Year award at yesterday's (Thursday) award ceremony in Dublin. Their selection as winners of the Young Sportstars of the Year caps off a memorable season for the entire squad following their UEFA championship final appearance against Spain which they lost on penalties following victories over Sweden and Germany. The young ‘Girls in Green' then qualified for the FIFA World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago and were defeated 2-1 by Japan in the quarter-finals after they emerged from a qualifying group which contained Brazil, Ghana and Canada.
