Sean McDermott

Born: 30/05/1993. U21 Caps: 4.

FIRST U21 campaign for the Norwegian-born goalkeeper. He was also in the UEFA U19 Championships squad in 2011 and was nominated for the U19 player of the year this season. McDermott started with Kristiansand club IK Våg then joined Arsenal in 2009 and also had a brief loan at Leeds United before he signed with Norwegian club Sandnes Ulf in 2012.

Aaron McCarey

MONAGHAN-native Aaron made the breakthrough in the Airtricity League with Monaghan United. The former Minor GAA star joined Wolves in 2009 and had loan spells at Telford United and Walsall. Starred at UEFA U19 Championships in 2011. Impressive in recent U21 win over Italy. Rejoined Walsall on loan in 2013 and made his Wolves debut against the same club in September in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The talented defender was born in Maidstone but has played for Ireland since U16 level. He started his career at Charlton Athletic before moving to Manchester United in July 2009.

He was part of the Red Devils side that won the 2011 FA Youth Cup and has had loan spells at Morecambe, Oxford United and Carlisle United. Joined Sheffield United in July 2013. Joined Northampton on-loan in January 2014.

Anthony O'Connor

ANOTHER player in the U21 squad for his first campaign. O'Connor was on-loan at Burton Albion from Blackburn Rovers in the 2012-13 season.

The Cork native previously played schoolboy football for Kilreen Celtic and Nu Farm before moving to Ewood Park in 2009. Had another loan spell with Torquay United in 2013-14 campaign.

 

Derrick Williams

DERRICK was unfortunate to be sent off on his U21 debut against Italy in September after making an impressive start to the game.

Born in Germany, Derrick lived briefly in North Carolina but moved to Waterford as a child and established himself with AFC Tramore the signed for Aston Villa in 2009.

He made his first-team debut against QPR in December 2012. Also played in 2011 UEFA U19 Championships. Joined Bristol City in July 2013.

Shane Duffy

THE Derry-born centre-back enjoyed his second campaign with the U21 team.

A number of injuries has hindered the progress of the talented defender, who previously played at underage level for Northern Ireland. The former Foyle Harps youngster joined Everton in 2008 and he has also had loan spells at Burnley, Scunthorpe and Yeovil Town.

Mark O'Brien

MARK was drafted into the U21 squad for the first time for this fixture but the former Cherry Orchard schoolboy has packed a lot into his young career. He made his debut for Derby County aged 16 but then his career was halted by successful heart surgery to correct a valve problem then after returning to action suffered cruciate ligament damage in 2011.

Returned to form in the 2012-13 season before injuries curtailed his progress once more.

 

John Egan

JOHN EGAN was 2011-12 U19 International Player of the Year and he managed the step up to Under-21 level with ease. The talented defender is equally comfortable at centre-back or right-back and he became an established part of Noel King’s side in 2013.

The Cork native is the son of the late Kerry GAA legend of the same name. The former Greenmount schoolboy had loan spells at Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and most recently Bradford City where he picked up an unfortunate injury which curtailed his progress.

Recently returned to action and went on-loan to Southend United.

Michael Harriman

MICHAEL won his first U21 cap in a friendly against Denmark in May 2013 and impressed enough to win his competitive debut against the Faroe Islands in August. He has been at QPR since his early teens and has played first team football for the London side.

Has had loans at St Albans and Wycombe Wanderers and recently joined Gillingham for the season. Born in Chicester.

 

Barry McNamee

DONEGAL native Barry is a very versatile player who has appeared in defence, midfield and up front for his club. He won his first cap as a left-back against Denmark in May 2013 and was very impressive.

His brother Anthony also plays for Derry City. Barry was the Airtricity League player of the month for April 2013. From Ramelton.

CHARLES won his first U21 call-up for the Faroe Islands qualifier in August 2013. He recently joined Blackpool FC from Wycombe Wanderers but has returned to his previous club on-loan for the season.

Born in Lambeth, he qualifies for Ireland through his Galway-born mother. A talented left-back who can also play centre-back.

 

Daryl Horgan

GALWAY-born Daryl is one of the most exciting SSE Airtricity League players around and has already played for three clubs at professional level in Ireland.

He emerged with Salthill Devon then joined Sligo Rovers before moving to Cork City, initially on-loan, before becoming a permanent fixture. He joined Dundalk in January 2014.

The dynamic winger has represented Ireland at various underage levels. 

 

Matt Doherty

MATT made an impressive debut at this level against Italy in September. The former Bohemians defender joined Wolves in 2010 and made his first team debut in January 2011 in an FA Cup tie against Doncaster.

He had a loan at Hibernian last season and played in the 2012 Scottish Cup Final then joined Bury in another loan deal earlier this season. Also played in 2011 UEFA U19 Championships. Has played midfield for the U21s and scored twice against the Faroe Islands in our opening UEFA qualifier in August 2013. He also scored against Montenegro in Tallaght Stadium in March 2014.

Joe Shaughnessy

ANOTHER member of 2011 UEFA U19 Championships to progress through the U21 squad for the first time. The Galway native has had a very impressive season in the SPL with the Dons at right-back. He signed for Aberdeen in June 2009 from Salthill Devon.

He had a loan spell at Forfar Athletic in 2011 but is now an established starter at Pittodrie. His brother Conor is also an underage international.

Carl McHugh

CARL has been in the spotlight recently after helping lead League Two side Bradford City to the English League Cup Final.

Born in Lettermacaward, Co Donegal, former Dungloe Town defender McHugh signed for Reading aged 16 and subsequently had loan spells with Swindon Supermarine and Dundalk before he signed for Bradford last August.

Cian Bolger

DUBLINER Cian is the son of former Dublin GAA star Declan Bolger. He grew up in Celbridge and moved from his local club to Leicester as a 16-year-old. He was the club's academy Player of the Year in 2009 but the former U19 international is still waiting for his club debut for the Foxes.

He has had several successful loan spell with Bristol Rovers, where he has more than 50 first team appearances. Joined Bolton in January 2013.

Jeff Hendrick

DUBLINER Hendrick was promoted to the senior international team for the friendly against Poland in 2013 but returned to the U21 squad in March 2014 to face Montenegro.

The Derby County midfielder has an impressive campaign with the U21 side in their UEFA qualifiers and previously starred at the UEFA U19 Championships with Paul Doolin's side where his workrate and passing ability impressed. The ex-St Kevin's youngster is making steady progress under Nigel Clough at Pride Park and is a regular starters for the Rams.

Hendrick has played for Ireland since U15 level and was nominated for the U17 Player of the Year award in 2010.

Callum Reilly

CALLUM won his first cap against Holland in February 2013 although he was involved in training squads at U16 level in the past. Reilly was born in Warrington and joined Birmingham City's youth system at the age of seven and made his first-team debut in January 2012. A midfielder who can also play full-back.

John O'Sullivan

JOHN was called into the U21 squad for the first time for the 4-2 win over Italy in September but did not make his debut. The talented midfielder is another graduate of the 2011 UEFA U19 Championships squad. He joined Blackburn from Belvedere FC and played his part in helping Rovers to the FA Youth Cup in 2011.

Kane Ferdinand

Ferdinand, who was another player to feature in the 2011 UEFA U19 Championships squad, won his first U21 cap against Holland in 2013. London-born Kane qualifies for Ireland through his father. He came through Southend United's youth system and made his breakthrough in January 2011 and was snapped up by Peterborough United on a four-year deal last August.

Samir Carruthers

SAMIR made his U21 debut against Italy in September and was also part of the 2011 U19 UEFA Championships squad.

Born in Islington, began his career at Cambridge United signed for Arsenal as a teenager before joining Aston Villa in 2009 and made his first-team debut against Liverpool in April 2012. Although eligible to play for Italy, Morocco and England, he has played for Ireland since U19 level. Joined MK Dons in a season-long loan in August 2013.

 

Frankie Sutherland

Frankie has been a regular at underage level for several years. Born in Hillingdon, he has been with QPR since his schoolboy days and made the breakthrough with Ireland at U17 level, qualifying through his Donegal-born grandmother. He featured in the Ireland U19 squad last season. Had a loan spell at Portsmouth last season.

 


Chris Forrester

CHRIS received his first U21 call-up for the Holland game in February 2013 after being on standby for a couple of games last season. The talented winger or midfielder had a stellar season for the Saints in 2012 after previously making the breakthrough with Bohemians. The Dubliner is a graduate of the FAI FAS course in Cabra and played schoolboy football with Smithfield FC and Belvedere FC.

ANTHONY, from Ballingarry in Co Limerick, was another squad member to star at the 2011 UEFA U19 Championships and he made the progress to U21 level in 2012, where he played against Hungary and Italy. The talented winger joined Wolves in 2009 and progressed quickly from the academy to make his senior debut in August 2011. He is now a first team regular at Molineux. Had a loan spell at Scunthorpe last season.

 

Connor Smith

CONNOR was called into the U21 squad for the win over Italy in September but did not make his debut. He was also in the 2011 UEFA U19 Championship squad.

The Delvin, Westmeath, native played for Mullingar Athletic and first emerged on Sky TV show Football's Next Star when he trained with Inter Milan in 2010. He signed for Watford later that year and had a loan spell with Wealdstone in 2011 and has since progressed to Watford's first team. Prefers to play in midfield but has often been used as a striker in underage football for Ireland.

Recently joined Gillingham in a loan move.

SEAN made an immediate impact on his U21 debut with a stunning goal against Italy in September 2012. Born in Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire, he joined Watford's youth system as a nine-year-old and is still with the Hornets. He made his debut against QPR in April 2011. He qualifies for Ireland through his grandparents and has played for Ireland since U17 level including the 2011 UEFA U19 Championship.

GRAHAM moved from Belvedere FC to Aston Villa as a teenager. Has has played for Ireland since U17 level and won his first U21 cap against Portugal in March 2013. Recently joined Shrewsbury Town. He was joint top scorer as Aston Villa won the NextGen Series in April 2013.

JACK won his first U21 call-up against the Faroe Islands in August 2013 and made a late appearance as a substitute. The youngest member of the squad, he made six competitive appearances in the UEFA U17 Championships qualifiers in 2012.

He was named in the Aston Villa first team squad for a league game last season and won the NextGen Series with the club in April 2013. Has been on-loan at Notts County this season.

 

Aiden O'Brien

MARKED his first U21 call-up with two goals against Holland in February 2013. Like Samir Carruthers, Aiden was born in Islington, London.

O'Brien has been with Millwall since his initial schoolboy days and signed his first professional contract in 2010, making his debut in the League Cup against Wolves that year. He has also had loan spells at Staines Town and Hayes & Yeading. Joined Crawley Town in a loan move after scoring against the Dutch in February.

 

Robbie Brady

DUBLINER Robert Brady recently agreed a transfer to Hull City from Manchester United after impressing on loan.

He joined a number of ex-Red Devils at Hull including Paul McShane, Joe Dudgeon and Corey Evans. The former St Kevin's Boys choolboy can play up front or on either wing. Has played for Ireland from U15 all the way to senior international.

SELCUK was born in Germany and has Turkish and Irish family background. He has played for Ireland since U16 level. He emerged with St Pauli and can play up front or on either wing. Won his first U21 international cap in a friendly against Denmark in May 2013.

Will Hayhurst

MADE his first U21 appearance as a substitute against Romania in October 2013. The winger played in the UEFA U19 Elite Qualifying Round last season. Born in England, Will qualifies for Ireland through parentage. He became a regular at Preston in the 2012-13 season and scored four goals. Previously capped at U17 level.

Liam McAlinden

LIAM won his first call-up for the UEFA U21 game against Montenegro having recently declared for the Republic of Ireland.

Born in Cannock, England, Liam previously represented Northern Ireland at youth levels. He qualifies for Ireland through his grandfather. He has made the first team breakthrough at club level and scored his first senior goal in September 2013 in a Football League Trophy tie against Walsall. He had a successful loan at Shrewsbury Town and has since impressed sinc being recalled to Wolves.

Kenneth McEvoy

THE Waterford native received his first U21 call-up for the UEFA U21 clash with Montenegro in March 2014 after winning eight U19 caps in recent seasons.

He has shown good recent form with Tottenham, where he has been likened to former first team star Gareth Bale. Emerged with the Villa club in Waterford. He is a quick winger with no little skill and an eye for goal.

Michael Drennan

Born: 02/02/1994.

MIKEY is a Kilkenny native who always shown an eye for goal. He scored five goals in as many games for the U19s in 2012-13  including a hat-trick against Luxembourg.

Drennan broke through with Evergreen in his native county. Recently had a loan at Carlisle and is currently on-loan at Portsmouth.
