The Under 19's in Paul Doolin's first year in charge secured qualification to the UEFA Under 19 European Championship Finals for the first time since 2002.

In the first qualifying phase, Ireland defeated defeated Luxembourg 5-0 before a 2-1 victory over hosts, Bulgaria. Ireland's passage to the Elite phase was confirmed despite a 1-0 defeat to Serbia in the final game.

Ireland began well in the opening game of the Elite phase against the hosts Poland securing a 1-0 win and creating a great platform for qualification. A close fought second game against Ukraine remained scoreless at 0-0 throughout which mean Paul Doolin's side needed a win against Italy to book their place in the finals. A fantastic 3-0 win followed securing qualification to the finals which take place in Romania from 20th of July to August 1st.

Ireland will go into the finals 7 games unbeaten and will take on Greece in the opening Group A game on July 20th. The second game will see Paul Doolin's men take on Czech Republic on July 23rd with the final group game taking place against the hosts Romania on July. Spain, Turkey, Serbia and Belgium will form Group B. Two from each group will progress to the semi finals on July 29th with the final taking place on August 1st.
