
Sunderland defender John O'Shea will captain the Republic of Ireland in the FIFA World Cup Group C qualifier against Germany at the Aviva Stadium.
O'Shea takes over the captain's armband from Robbie Keane who was ruled out this morning with an Achillies injury. He will continue to receive treatment in an effort to have him fit for next Tuesday's trip to the Faroe Islands.Jonathan Walters will lead the Irish attack against Germany in Keane's absence as Giovanni Trapattoni's opts for a 4-3-3 formation with Keith Andrews, James McCarthy and Keith Fahey in midfield and Aiden McGeady and Simon Cox on the flanks.
Seamus Coleman comes in at right-back with O'Shea moving in to partner Darren O'Dea in the centre of defence.
