Republic of Ireland confirm Greece and Poland friendly dates

The Football Association of Ireland today confirmed two home friendly fixtures against Greece on November 14, 2012 and against Poland on February 6, 2013.

The Three International friendly matches will take place in Aviva Stadium. The Republic of Ireland has played Greece twice before, losing once and drawing once. By comparison, Ireland has played Poland 23 times, winning five, drawing eight and losing ten of those matches. For the record number of fans who travelled to Poland for EURO 2012, this encounter will be seen as something of a reunion with their Polish counterparts and an opportunity to relive the spirit of Poznan and Gdansk.

Welcoming the confirmation today, Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni said, "These matches provide me with a very important opportunity to work with the squad and test ourselves against strong European opposition in preparation for the pivotal World Cup Qualification double header against Sweden and Austria in March 2013."

The Republic of Ireland's next home match will take place against Germany in Aviva Stadium on October 12. Tickets are currently on sale through ticketmaster.ie.
