Career Summary


Alan junior picked up the gloves to follow a rich family tradition. His father Alan senior won 47 caps as a goalkeeper and Alan junior began his career at Preston North End before moving to Sheffield United where he spent seven seasons, staying loyal despite relegation from the Premier League. Joined Blackburn Rovers in 1999 before retiring five years later. Won 34 caps for his country, travelling to two World Cups and bridged the gap between two Donegal keepers Packie Bonner and Shay Given. Now goalkeepers' coach under Trapattoni, a position he also held under Steve Staunton.
