FAI Ford Senior Cup

The oldest football competition in Ireland, the FAI Senior Cup is the blue riband event for clubs in Ireland. Clubs from the Airtricity League compete with junior and intermediate clubs in a competition that dates back to 1922.

The final of the 2009 competition was a classic encounter which seen Sporting Fingal produce a dramatic comeback to defeat Sligo Rovers 2-1 in the Tallaght Stadium in November 2009.

2. Bray Wanderers

3. Limerick/Sporting Fingal

4. Monaghan United

5. St. Patrick's Athletic

6. Salthill Devon/Galway United

7. Shamrock Rovers

8. Sligo Rovers

The FAI Ford Cup Quarter-Final ties will be played over the weekend ending Sunday, 19th September.

Meanwhile, the two outstanding quarter-finalists will be known tonight with a pair of replays to be staged.

Ger O'Brien is out of Sporting Fingal's FAI Ford Cup replay against Limerick at Jackman Park (7.45pm) with an ankle injury.

The full-back twisted his ankle in the lead-up to Lims' equaliser in the 2-2 draw on Friday and was brought to hospital for a scan which revealed the damage caused. He's expected to be out for at least a week.

Colin Hawkins wasn't fully fit in time for the tie at Morton Stadium but could figure if he comes through a fitness test. Otherwise, Liam Buckley has a full squad to choose from.

Reflecting on the tie in which his side surrendered a two-goal interval lead, Buckley said:

"We're all disappointed for not closing the game out in the second half, especially against ten men for the last twenty minutes.

"Limerick pushed a lot of players into the box for the final stages and we should have dealt with that danger better.

"However, we're still in the competition and even more determined to retain the trophy. Last season, we had to dig out results away from home and we've already had to emerge through an away replay at Mervue United this season.

"Our performance in the second half was not up to the level and the players know that just as much as I. This will be a difficult replay but one we're confident of getting a result from."

Shane Tracy is unavailable for Limerick through suspension.

Salthill Devon host Galway United in the second of tonight's FAI Ford Cup Fourth Round replays tonight, as the near-neighbours compete for a place in the Quarter Finals.

The side's played out a 1-1 draw at Terryland Park on Friday night, with the Tribesmen taking the lead only for Salthill to equalise.

Galway United manager Sean Connor is disappointed to be faced with a replay and is hoping his team can keep their concentration better tonight.

"I think we started off really well but to be fair to Salthill they kept their shape and got 10 men behind the ball," he said.

"The first goal was always going to be important and when we got it it was good, but then to conceded from a set piece was poor.

"The replay is a game we don't need but we just have to get on with it."
