Wexford Youths confirmed the buoyant state of the game in the South/East of the country by scoring a magnificent win in the FAI Umbro Youth Challenge Cup for season 2007/'08. They were stretched to defeat Salthill Devon in a penalty shoot-out in the semi-final and then struck a peak of form to overcome Dundalk FC in the final on May 18, 2008.

In the FAI Youth Umbro Challenge Cup semi-finals, St. Patrick's Athletic were defeated by Dundalk FC while Wexford Youths beat Galway's Salthill Devon, 4-2 on penalties after the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The final resulted in a marvellous win for Wexford Youths who defeated Dundalk FC 4-0.
