Gary Twigg is top man in the League of Ireland

 

Shamrock Rovers' Gary Twigg was revealed as the Footballer of the year at the annual awards banquet of the Professional Footballers' Association/Ford in Dublin on Sunday.

Twigg picked up the prestigious award in his debut season in the FAI League of Ireland as a result of his consistently good performances for Shamrock Rovers. He topped the League of Ireland scoring charts with 24 goals.

The members of the PFAI also made awards in vario9us other categories and selected Premier Division and First Division teams on the basis of performances throughout the season.

They also selected an "Overseas Player of the Year" and Ireland's international team's captain and record goalscorer, Robbie Keane, was a winner here.

Mr. Eddie Murphy of Ford Ireland was present to make the presentations to the following winners:
