Garvan to captain U21s in Tallaght

Owen Garvan will captain the Republic of Ireland Under-21 team tonight in their vital UEFA European Championship qualifying match against Georgia in the Tallaght Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Dublin-born midfielder will take his place in the heart of an impressive line-up, with James McCarthy, Keith Treacy and Cillian Sheridan all among the young stars named in the starting XI to face Georgia at the Tallaght Stadium. Tallaght-born Stephen Gleeson will also get the chance to play in the stadium for the first time.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 team for tonight’s match is as follows:

Shane Redmond
Seamus Coleman
Gavin Gunning
Callum Morris
Brendan Moloney
Stephen Gleeson
Owen Garvan (Capt.)
James McCarthy
Keith Treacy
Cillian Sheridan
Alan Judge

Both Gavin Gunning (Blackburn Rovers) and Callum Morris (Newcastle United) will earn their first Under-21 caps this evening, ahead of Tuesday night’s match against Switzerland at the RSC.

“It’s an important game for us," said manager Don Givens. "We have played quite well in our two matches to date but we are still searching for our first win. If we put in the sort of performance we are capable of, and if we begin to take our chances in front of goal, hopefully that win will come tonight in the Tallaght Stadium.

“This is the first Under-21 match in the Tallaght Stadium and we’re all looking forward to it. I know that crowds at the stadium have been excellent all season and it would be great for our lads if fans came out to support them.”

Tickets for this evening’s Under-21 European Championship qualifier between the Republic of Ireland and Georgia are on sale at the Umbro store in the Tallaght Stadium right up until kick-off. Tickets are priced €15 for adults and €5 for Under-16s.
