Salgado and Healy take part in UEFA ‘B’ License in Dublin
Former Spanish international and Real Madrid legend, Michel Salgado joined former Irish international, Colin Healy to take part in the UEFA ‘B’ license at the AUL, Dublin last week.
Colin Healy, who currently plays for Cork City FC and played 13 times for Ireland said;
“I am really enjoying working with the FAI on my UEFA ‘B’ Licence course. It is being run to an excellent standard by a fantastic group of tutors and guest speakers.”
Michel Salgado, who has played 53 times for the Spanish National Team, and won the UEFA Champions League twice and the Spanish La Liga 4 times over a ten-year career with Real Madrid is also enjoying the course; “I have really enjoyed the UEFA ‘B’ Licence course in Ireland with amazing tutors. The course is held in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere which is important when so many people come together to try and complete the course, and some can feel under pressure. When I spoke to Greig Paterson about coming to do the course I was impressed at the course curriculum, and what the course would entail, and it is living up to expectations, especially in the hot weather of the last few weeks- it’s like being back in Madrid!”
Greig Paterson, FAI National Coach Education Coordinator, stated that;
“We have been in the throes of redeveloping and redesigning our UEFA Licence courses over the past few years, and this is only the second time we have delivered the UEFA ‘B’ Licence course in this fashion, but already the feedback about them has been excellent. We now ask our coaches to analyse a match first, before justifying what coaching session they want to deliver. It is a better format and allows our coaches to create ‘reality based’ training sessions and implement them back at their own clubs. Being able to attract course participants of the calibre of Colin Healy and Michel Salgado is a wonderful example of how well the courses are being received”.
The FAI Coach Education Department will deliver another UEFA ‘B’ Licence course in 2012. The course starts on Monday 23rd July, with applications being accepted up to Friday 22nd June. More details can be found on www.fai.ie and www.fai.ie/coaching
