
The third level football section is coordinated by Gerard Dunne. Six football facilitators are co-funded with seven institutions. The main programmes organised by the third level section are: The Colleges and Universities Football League, Futsal, Coach and Referee Education, Volunteer Education, Teacher Training courses are provided in most of the third level colleges and available to all teachers. The three affiliates at third level CFAI, IUFU and WSCAI all link in with the third level section as they provide football for students.
BA Sport and Exercise (Soccer) course applications close on May 1
The BA Sport and Exercise (Soccer) course in IT Carlow was launched in August 2009. The course sees participants (male and female) complete Player Development, Coach Education, Sports Science and Business modules over a 3 year degree programme with the option of completing a 4th year honours degree BA Sports Coaching and Management. The course is delivered by the Institute of Technology Carlow in association with the Football Association of Ireland. The aim of the programme is to provide an academic qualification that combines Coaching, Fitness and Player Development, with a broad based management curriculum relevant to the development of the sport. The course will provide competencies and skills in such diverse areas as Player Development and Coaching. The course will give an understanding of the cross functional nature of the business/sport environment and will develop in students a multitude of transferable business and communication skills.
Over the past 3 years the course has attracted numerous Airtricity League and Bus Eireann League players, current students include up and coming talents such as Adam Hanlon (Bray Wanderers), Gary Shaw (Longford Town), Daniel Ledwith (UCD), Michael Schlingermann (Monaghan Utd), Megan Campbell (Raheny Utd) and Louise Quinn (Peamount Utd). Currently 22 students on the course are plying their trade in the Airtricity and Bus Eireann Leagues at U19, 1st Division and Premier Division level. Paul O Reilly, Course Leader said 'having so many talented players coming to IT Carlow has raised standards on the course and with the elite facilities on the campus it is a great learning and development environment for these young players to progress both their education and playing careers'

Local Schools to help break record
The Colleges Football Association of Ireland (CFAI) are ready to attempt to break the record for most consecutive penalty kicks. The Guinness World Record breaking attempt is to mark the 40th anniversary of the CFAI and will take place at Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday, February 29th.
