2010 Programme of activities in support of FARE Week from the 14th – 26th of October
The Football Association of Ireland support for fare week kicked off at the Republic at the Ireland vs. Russia 2012 Uefa European Championship Qualifier on Friday October 8th. At the European cup Qualifier fare week was marked, as in the previous 4 years, with a half-time children’s exhibition match which symbolises and celebrates diversity in Ireland. The teams taking part in this match were made up of young girls playing soccer in Ireland from diverse cultural, ethnic and national backgrounds, all of whom have participated in an FAI programme during 2010. During the fare week period, League of Ireland Clubs will also host half-time exhibition matches and on pitch activities in support of the fare Campaign. Over 140 community and grassroots football initiatives have been planned, involving youth & community groups, clubs, leagues, colleges, universities and schools; these range from local community friendly matches deigned to bring people together using football as the catalyst for interaction, to youth educational workshops on racism. fare week in Ireland is coordinated by the FAI and its community partners and the support of the office of the minister for integration. Below is a summary of events taking place during the fare week period.
