Player safety is of paramount importance to all.
It is a matter of regret that in recent years, serious injuries and fatalities have occurred arising from the inappropriate use of goalposts.
The Football Association of Ireland conducted an enquiry into best practice in the installation and maintenance of goalposts to help clubs tackle the problems.
The safety guidelines set out here represent a consensus of views on the subject from a multitude of sources from around the world, including goalpost manufacturers and suppliers.
They are designed to offer practical guidance toward protecting players' safety and increasing everybody's enjoyment of the game.
Keeping safety onside is in everybody's interest and those persons charged with the provision and maintenance of playing facilities and infrastructure will find the advice and specifications detailed in the following documents of particular help and importance.
