Wicklow march on at SFAI Umbro Kennedy Cup

The Wicklow League's SFAI Umbro Kennedy Cup fairytale continued today (Wednesday) at Limerick University when they defeated Dongeal on a penalty shoot-out to qualify for the semi-final against South Dublin.

Prior to this season's tournament, Wicklow's best placing in the 32-team schoolboy tournament was eleventh but now they have the chance to reach Friday's final.

Their quarter-final tie against Donegal finished scoreless and their goalkeeper Tommy Dunne turned out to be the hero with two saves in the penalty shoot-out to seal a 3-1 win.

South Dublin progressed to the semi's as Vinny Ogbe's brace earned them a 2-1 win over Midlands.

Reigning champions DDSL, meanwhile, clinched their spot in the last-four in dramatic fashion by coming out tops in a sudden death penalty shout-out against Waterford after the sides played out a 1-1 draw.

Timilehin Toluwanile Solomon headed the holders into the lead midway through the second half but Waterford's late surge resulted in an injury-time equaliser through by Meschac Babatu.

Limerick gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about by getting the better of Longford, also in a penalty shoot-out, following a 1-1 draw.

Keith O'Connell's opener for the host league was cancelled out by a superb Daryl Carrigy free-kick, his fifth goal in four matches.
