Setanta Sports Cup

The Setanta Sports Cup was inaugurated in 2005 with the support of Setanta Sports TV company. The initial promotion was comprised of six teams, three representing the Carling Premiership in Northern Ireland and three from the Airtricity League. The competition was expanded in 2006 to eight teams, and in 2009 to nine teams.

Crusaders are the new Setanta Sports Cup champions. They won the Cup for the first time by beating Derry City in a penalty shoot-out in the final of the 2012 competition at The Oval. Our picture shows Dan Murray raising the Cup for Cork City.

Still all to play for Setanta Cup semi-finals

The second legs of the 2013 Setanta Sports semi-finals take place on Monday with both ties still very much up for grabs. Cork City and Shamrock Rovers meet at Turner's Cross in front of the Setanta Sports cameras with the tie level at 1-1 after the first leg last week in Tallaght although Cork do have the advantage of an away goal. Drogheda United take a 2-0 lead over Sligo Rovers to The Showgrounds but it remains to be seen if that will be enough against the Airtricity League champions who are bidding to reach the final for the first time. The Setanta Sports Cup Final will take place on Saturday, May 11, and a decision on the venue for the final will be made by the Tournament Committee once the finalists are known. If a tie ends in a draw the rules of the Setanta Sports Cup Tournament 2013 state:• In the event of the scores being level at the end of the second match the team scoring more away goals shall be declared the winning team.• If at the end of the second match the scores are level and both teams have scored the same number of away goals two 15 minute periods of extra time shall be played.• If during extra time the same number of goals are scored by both teams the away team shall be declared the winning team by virtue of having scored more away goals.• If no goals are scored during extra time the tie will be decided by a penalty shoot out in accordance with the conditions approved by the International FA Board.• In the event of a penalty shoot out the referee shall determine at which end of the pitch the penalty kicks are taken. Match PreviewsCork City v Shamrock Rovers, Turners Cross, 7.30pm (Live on Setanta Sports).Cork City are bidding to reach the final for the first time since 2008 when they won the competition and hold an away goal advantage over the 2011 winners after a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Tallaght Stadium last week. Colin Healy will miss the tie through suspension, and long-term absentee Brian Lenihan is also ruled out. Captain Kevin Murray is also definitely out with a groin injury, while Dunne also has concerns over the fitness of Daryl Horgan (hamstring), Danny Murphy (hamstring) and John Dunleavy (ill). Shamrock Rovers will be without Jason McGuinness (hamstring) and Ken Oman (ankle) while Derek Foran (groin) and Mark Quigley (hamstring) are both doubtful. Both sides will be eagerly looking forward to the game as it offers the chance toqiuickly banish memories of last Firday league games. Cork conceded an injury time equaliser to bottom side Shelbourne while Rovers suffered their first league defeat of the season and first loss in 12 games away to Derry City.Match Officials: Referee: Padraigh Sutton, Assistant Referee 1: Dermot Broughton, Assistant Referee 2: Damian Klier, Additional Assistant Referee 1: Alan Kelly, Additional Assistant Referee 2: Anthony Buttimer, Fourth Official: Ralph Pieper. Sligo Rovers v Drogheda United, Showgrounds, 7.45pm.Sligo Rovers have had a week to forget after their 12 game winning run was brought to a crashing end as they suffered back to back 2-0 defeats to Drogheda United in the Setanta Sports Cup and St Patrick's Athletic in the Airtricity League. That first leg defeat at Hunky Dorys Park leaves them with an uphill task in the second leg but they will draw confidence from the fact that they have won 11 of their last 12 home games. However, Danny North (knee), Seamus Conneely (knee), Raffaele Cretaro (thigh) and Ciaran Kelly (fractured sternum) are all ruled out and Aaron Greene (groin) is a doubt with a groin problem but Sligo have Joseph Ndo back while Alan Keane is available despite sustaining a broken nose on Friday at Richmond Park. Drogheda beat UCD on Friday night and have now lost just once in 13 league and cup games this season. Alan Byrne will miss the trip while doubts surround the participation of Gary O'Neill and Brian Gannon.Match officials: Referee: Arnie Hunter, Assistant Referee 1: Richard Storey, Assistant Referee 2: James Eakin, Additional Assistant Referee 1: Ray Crangle, Additional Assistant Referee 2: Mervyn Smyth, Fourth Official: Gareth Eakin.
