Charlie Hurley (Drogheda) RIP
We have been advised that Charlie Hurley of Drogheda has passed away.
Charlie worked most of his life in the Drogheda Independent and gave incredible time to developing football in the town. He inherited his love of football from his father Thomas and was involved in the formation of Drogheda FC in 1962 where he served as its first Secretary. The club merged with Drogheda United in 1975. He was joint Club President of Drogheda United FC with his lifelong friend Vincent Hoey. Charlie was recognised with an FAI lifetime achievement award in 2008 for all that he did for the club. He was a regular match goer at United Park and was described by the Drogheda Independent as a 'father of football' in the town.
We extend our deepest sympathies to his children and friends.
May he rest in peace.
